True collaboration what is it all about?

How do you get to TRUE COLLABORATION?

True collaboration combines all three key communication senses:

  • Hearing (audio) - 1 dimensional communication (1D)
  • Seeing (images) - when added to hearing we get 2 dimensional communication (2D)
  • Sensing (body language) - add that key ingredient to the other two to get 3D

What we have termed 3D combines the three senses to enable emotional intelligence.

This is key as it upgrades the speed of comprehension by 60,000 times.

How does it achieve that?

Shortfalls and upgrading

Whilst words (1D) go into the short term memory, images (2D) go into the long term memory and last but by no means least Body language (the 3D) can contribute up to 55% of communication.

That makes the 3D visual communication vital to achieving effective communication and in business we see it all the time, the conscious decision making that says no, that meeting is too important lets do it face to face.

So what are the implications?

Firstly, you can see the emergence of Skype Business and other 3-D communication tools.

These tools have a fuelled an explosion in visual communication using 3D, from 37 million users into 2013 to 238m into 2016.

wainhouse_chart_benefits. The growth is driven by the top benefits that enterprise, SMB and teams all derive from visual collaboration:

1. productivity is the no1 driver and benefit .

A 1% change in global productivity is worth $625bn, which dwarf's the current market for visual collaboration $22.5bn. This means that the return on investment is significant, which will fuel further growth..

2. In today's world, where pace is crucial in the disrupt or be disrupted environment, the other two benefits of visual collaboration are key.

Fast input into decisions enhances the impact and upgrades the quality of the decision.

These two secondary benefits are driving the explosion as companies have been struggling with the old tools of email, audio conferences and screen sharing, especially with teams being more distant and geographically diverse.

That Growth rate of 40% per annum is due to continue and is being further fuelled, by the next generations of visual collaboration 4D and 5D. For on the horizon is change to 4D and 5D communication, which delivers True Collaboration.

True collaboration adds for the end user the familiarity gained by being able to use any device (4D) to communicate. However 5D takes it to a new level giving the IT professional the flexibility of being able to use any platform and cross platform communication.

So a summary of the change would be:

1D hearing only

2D images and hearing

3D body language, hearing and images

4D body language, hearing and images and being able to use any device.

5D body language, hearing and images, being able to use any device and any platform.

So if you want to optimise your communication then a move to 5D is essential. The good news is as you can use any device and any platform you can use what you already have for the most part, as long as it has a camera and WiFi your device will be 5D enabled.

The investment is required in two areas:

- committing to 5D and driving that change in the organisation

- investing in the tools to connect every device and platform so you don't have to invest in hardware AGAIN!
